POM Prescription for March:
Summer Fun and Trip Preparedness

P - Peace of Mind Prescription for Summer Fun and Trip Preparedness

P - Planning

E -  Entertaining

A - Activities

C - Care and Safety

E - Evaluate

P - Planning

Transportation and lodging accommodations – Now is the time to book your mode of transportation and determine where you will stay for that summer vacation.

Packing lists – Create packing lists for the trips that you take repeatedly and save them in your Home Reference Guide so that you aren’t spending time recreating them each year. Sign up for our newsletter and receive sample packing lists.

In your absence – Who will tend to the home in your absence? Create a check list of things to do before leaving for vacation. Include: Mail, paper, plants, animals, work responsibilities, landscaping. Call Peace of Mind to manage your home and all of the tasks while you are away so that you can continue that vacation relaxation upon your arrival home.

E - Entertaining

Work inside your home now so that you can enjoy the outside this summer – who wants to be inside during the sunny sun of summer? Spend time right now getting your home clutter-free, follow our January prescription for space organization or call Peace of Mind to assist you with this process. You don’t want to be bogged down with things to do inside during the fun summer months. Work on your outdoor landscaping plan so that you can entertain out of doors. Who will mow the grass, pull the weeds, and set up the slip and slide?

Eating - Get your picnic basket ready with the basics so that you can grab it for that spontaneous trip to the park for lunch or dinner. Kids love picnics! Significant others like a romantic picnic as well; better plan on scheduling the babysitter.

BBQ’s – Now is the time to gather up all of the BBQ supplies. Clean and prepare your BBQ and all of the utensils for easy use when it warms up. Keep everything together in a cupboard or in a crate for easy access.

A - Activities

Calendar – Make a list of all of the summer fun activities that take place in your town and let each family member choose their favorite and put it on the calendar. Planning ahead now, including everyone will create excitement as well as keeping the arguments to a minimum. Call your local Chamber of Commerce to find out what’s happening in your town.

Graduation – Don’t forget those kiddos or adults that are graduating this year. Sign up for our newsletter and hear from Graduates regarding the “Best Gifts for Grads!”

C - Care and Safety

Water Safety, Firework Safety, Sun Safety, walking too close to the edge safety - Ok, I’m going too far. Something physiologically happens to my body when I fear for my children. Even with all of the planning in the world, someone you love may still get hurt. It doesn’t hurt to know the ins and outs of safety. Below you will find website links with the best information regarding summer fun safety.

E - Evaluate

Are you scheduling too much for your family? – Think back to your childhood memories of summer. What I remember fondly where the times when nothing was scheduled and we could explore, imagine, and play make believe. Just go outside and discover the magic that awaits you. Too many families are going from one thing to another and hardly enjoying a meal together anymore.

Yearly Vacations – If you love it, keep going year after year. If you dread the time spent thinking about it, planning for it, going there, it may be time to change it up. It may not be up to you to decide, but it wouldn’t hurt to bring up the discussion and see what comes of it.
